I’ll never forget the 2001 World Series when my coworker was a jerk and got into an argument with Gwen Knapp over a phone line. She was feisty and excellent at what she did. He declined her invitation to go outside when she asked him to. Gwen, RIP. Give her a phone number and then move aside. I collaborated with Gwen Knapp for many years. We battled day after day, tooth and nail. When we started working, she would kindly greet me, ask how my children were doing, and then roll up her sleeves for yet another fight. Everyone ought to have someone who is willing to push them to improve.
We were saddened to learn of the passing of our coworker @gwenknapp. A helpful coworker and a versatile journalist. She was one of the @nytimes editors who, along with this zinger, shared the @ACESEditors award for best headlines in 2021. May God bless her memories.
The Gwen Knapp Lupus and Immunology Research Center’s research programs successfully link fundamental research with translational and clinical research by adopting a multidisciplinary approach to the study of autoimmunity.
The facility is essential to hastening the conversion of foundational laboratory discoveries into therapeutic applications that directly help people. The skilled medical staff in the rheumatology division works with geneticists and researchers to carry out clinical research based on the most recent understanding of the etiology of autoimmune diseases. These experts evaluate the hereditary risk posed by patients and family members and offer innovative therapeutic approaches. The research and clinical staff of UChicago are actively involved in postdoctoral researchers, physicians, undergraduate and graduate students, and undergraduate and graduate students.
